Mesmerised
It's not often that I find myself saying that I was mesmerised. But isn't it great when it happens? That's exactly what happened to me when I saw The Audreys on the ABC last Monday night (The Audreys - Live At The Gov). And even greater, they're showing it again on ABC2 on Sunday, 11am. Consider this a Molly post - do yourself a favour.
Now I'm not into country, folk, pop, roots, or anything like what The Audreys may be classified as. They say that their music is eclectic. Others say it's a mix of pop, country and folk. I think it's simply unique.
Some might describe the pace of their music as slow. I'd say it's languid, smooth, satisfying. Like a double shot of Drambuie on lots of crushed ice. Meant to be savoured.
But to be honest, it wasn't the music that drew me in.
It wasn't the lyrics, and it wasn't the atmosphere at the venue.
It was the voice. Taasha Coates.
She sways, she smiles, she sings like an angel. Mesmerising. Captivating. Magic.

I'm not into those genres either, but I know what you mean, and on your recommendation I will check them out. My personal choice for mesmerising music is Bowery Electric's "Lushlife". It's like breathing. It's like a warm bath (or whatever is your perfect temperature for relaxing in). I can listen to it over and over, and it's almost always on my mp3 playlist (as a rule, only removed when I'm craving Rammstein and the like).
Hi mg. I will have to check out Bowery Electric, too. And by the way, I think we all crave Rammstein sometimes. Except your Rammstein is my Tool - "Aenima" is my preference. I think I'll go rip it now....
Hi m :) My current playlist is almost perfect. Lushlife is on there, but also some Marilyn Manson, Rage Against the Machine and Iggy Pop. I think my taste should be described as "eclectic".
I took my own advise. They were twice as good the second time around. :-)
I first saw The Audreys at the St Kilda Festival in February- it was a hot day, windy- the sand was blowing everywhere due to the drought, but I was completely captivated. Taasha Coates really has the most magical voice, enchanting, really. I saw them again for my b'day in June, and they were just as enjoyable.
